Tamara McBride of Douglasville died at the scene after she was ejected from a GMC Jimmy that collided with a pickup truck, Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said. Police say they are not sure if she was wearing a seatbelt. Her 11-year-old sister Tia also was flung from the SUV as it overturned. Tia was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where she was in serious condition, Wright said. Also injured were Tamara and Tia’s sister Tiffany, 12, and their brother Ptolemy Castleberry, 18, of Lithia Springs, the driver of the SUV. Troopers are investigating the possibility that a tire on the SUV blew out, causing Castleberry to lose control and to crash into the Chevrolet Silverado pickup, Wright said. The pickup truck driver, Jeffrey Steed, 46, of Rockmart, was treated at the scene and released. The incident occurred between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., said Captain Jolyon Bundrige of the Atlanta Department of Fire and Rescue. He said all the injured were taken to Grady. Two suffered critical injuries and one suffered minor injuries, he said. The crash closed three eastbound lanes of I-20 near I-285 and caused a major backup, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
