COLUMBUS, GA – Friends and church members remember those who lost their lives in a church van accident in South Georgia that killed four people and injured fifteen others. The crash happened on U.S. Highway 27, just south of Blakely, Georgia Sunday. Georgia State Troopers say a tire blew out and the driver Kenasha Sledon, 29, lost control of the 1987 Dodge Ram Wagon. Everyone in the 15-passenger van was ejected. Investigators say it does not appear seat belts were in use at the time of the crash. Tabernacle of Prayer and Deliverance Church pastor, Apostle Ron Williams, 35, his daughter, Jasmine Shelly, 14, Cameron Freeman, 19, and Jennifer Walton, 20, died in the accident. “I’m blessed and that’s all I can say is thank God,” said Teanna Streeter, one of many church members mourning and even counting their blessings following the tragedy. Streeter says work kept her from going on the revival trip to Florida. “It could have been me,” she said. “It hasn’t really hit me completely yet.” David Marshall, 17, knew five friends who went on the trip, three of them, as of Monday evening, remain hospitalized in stable condition. Marshall remembers his best friend of four years, Cameron Freeman, a Columbus Tech student who loved music and dance. “The last time I talked to Cameron, he came up to the school and he was just sitting beside me,” he explained. “We were singing one of his favorite pieces, Ave Maria.” Marshall says Cameron loved food and poetry and calls him a great writer. “It’s tough to see somebody that you care for like a brother and family member sit beside you one day and the next minute he’s gone,” he said, Friends describe Jennifer Walton, 20, as a laid back, young woman who just couldn’t stop smiling. Fifteen people ranging in age from 11 months to 32 years of age suffered injuries. As of Monday evening, one man is listed in stable condition at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Three are in stable condition at Flowers hospital in Dothan. A hospital spokesperson says another patient there was discharged Monday.
