Mother and baby involved in hit and run

WTVM – Alabama Headlines
By Roslyn Giles

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A short chase between a Columbus police officer and the driver of a Ford F-150 ends in a hit and run. Police say they spotted the truck traveling westbound on Victory Drive, driving at a high rate of speed. Two men in the truck, both believed to be Hispanics, refused to adhere to the officer’s blue lights, ran a stop sign and careened into silver SUV, says police. It happened at the intersection of Airview and Victory Drives around 3:00 Thursday morning. Tammy Thompson, 21, and her infant were hit from the rear. Lieutenant Ronnie Hastings says the baby was not properly restrained in the vehicle. She was inside a car seat positioned in the front passenger seat facing forward. According to police, neither sustained injuries. The driver and passenger of the truck left the scene of the accident. Police say they were last seen running into a nearby mobile home park. Names were found on papers inside the truck that police are hoping will lead them to the men. Police are still looking for the suspects.
