Sadly we report about the pedestrian accident involving the grand daughter of Nelson Mandela. All too often we report on pedestrain accidents here that involve senseless tragedy. Although South Africa is half a world, there is a common thread throughout the world for these accidents.
According to the
Daily News Reporter:
The driver of the car involved in the accident that killed Nelson Mandela’s great-granddaughter has expressed regret and is co-operating fully with the authorities, according to the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Zenani Mandela, 13, died on Friday while she was returning from the World Cup kick-off concert at Orlando Stadium in Soweto. To end speculation around the accident, the foundation said that the driver of the car was a close family friend, 23-year-old Sizwe Mankazana.

He is the son of Zwelakhe Mankazana, who is Zenani Mandela-Dlamini’s partner. Mandela-Dlamini is Zenani’s great-aunt. Zenani was the daughter of Zoleka Mandela-Seakamela and Casey Moyo, the granddaughter of Zindzi Mandela and the great-granddaughter of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and Nelson Mandela. In a statement issued by the foundation, Mankazana said: “I deeply regret the loss of our little Zeni. I ask that your thoughts and prayers be with her family and friends during this very difficult time.” Mankazana was regarded as part of the Mandela family, and spent a great deal of time with Zenani, the foundation said. Mankazana was arrested at the scene of the accident in Joburg, and was later released by a magistrate because further investigation was required. Mankazana and his family had co-operated with the authorities and would continue to do so, said the foundation.
Sadly enough this is not the first time this type of accident has struck Nelson Mandel.
