Woman killed in I-185 accident

A woman was killed and four family members injured when their SUV overturned about 8 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 185 just north of the Hamilton Road exit. Habiba Saidzada, 64, of Columbus, who suffered head and chest injuries, was pronounced dead at 8:48 a.m. at West Georgia Medical Center, said Troup County Coroner Jeff Cook. A 10-year-old boy was taken to West Georgia Medical Center with relatively minor injuries, but his 16-year-old sister, along with an adult female and adult male were flown by helicopter to trauma centers in Atlanta and Columbus. Their names were not available Thursday evening. A witness said the southbound Chevrolet Tahoe ran into the median and the driver overcorrected. The SUV went across both lanes and the driver overcorrected again, causing the vehicle to overturn at the exit ramp to Hamilton Road. The family had gone to Atlanta to pick up a man from an international flight and were returning to Columbus when the accident occurred. The vehicle was upside down, blocking one of the southbound lanes when emergency personnel arrived.
