Governor’s Office Intern Killed In Crash With Suspected Drunken Driver

Killed in Car Accidnet

ATLANTA – An intern in Governor Sonny Perdue’s office was killed Saturday when two vehicles collided on West Peachtree Street.

Atlanta police said Christa Scott, 26, was driving a Ford Mustang convertible shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday when she disobeyed a red light. Scott then collided with another Ford Mustang, driven by Jordan Griner, 24, of Augusta, that was traveling west on 17th Street approaching West Peachtree Street. Police said Griner had to be extricated and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died. Police said Scott’s breathalyzer test was 0.229. She is now charged with homicide by vehicle, DUI and reckless driving. Scott was taken to the Fulton County Jail. Perdue said in a statement, “The Governor’s Office experienced a heartbreaking tragedy today when one of our bright, talented interns passed away in a traffic accident. Jordan Griner excelled in a variety of roles over the past few months, and our entire Governor’s Office family will deeply miss his enthusiastic smile, joyful personality and willingness to help others. He was loved by both staff and his fellow interns, and Mary and I are deeply saddened by this sudden loss. As I told Jordan’s mother today, our state has lost a bright and shining star. Our only hope is that this senseless tragedy reminds Georgians that drinking and driving is a dangerous mix that can end innocent lives.”
