Jones Co. Accident Victim Dies

One of the victims from Tuesday morning’s log-truck accident in Gray died later in the afternoon. Gray Police Lt. Eric Maynard says 91-year-old Cecil Nesmith appeared to be at fault for failing to yield to the log truck on Highway 18. The pickup passenger, 73-year-old Henry Bonner, is in critical condition at a Macon hospital. Maynard says the truck driver, Martin Mack, suffered only minor injuries. The accident shut down a busy intersection when the log truck spilled its load onto Highway 18. The truck rolled over and some of the logs fell onto nearby railroad tracks. Shortly after noon, EMA Director Don Graham says Jones County crews were still clearing the scene, but traffic was moving again by 1 p.m. An investigator with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office says none of the people involved face charges.
